Raw chocolate!

01 October 2006

I'm still here! Sorry folks have sort of been on holiday. By that I mean visiting friends and family and going to weddings and such things. I have relatives to visit next week too and then that is me back! I really do have lots of things to post about but sorry to say it is going to have to wait for another week. One thing I will post about since it is continuing from belows post is that I found affordable fairtrade cotton jeans at ... you guessed it! Marks and Spencers!!

6th September 2006

Footwear
Mmmmm. Love it when I go to Bourgeois Boheme and there are so many new items they don't all fit on the 'What's New' Page! Have a good search around the site to see what you can find.

Clothes
Thanks to Bea for letting me know that Wallis have great non-wool winter coats. They have a lovely Sixties style coat and loads of Macs. I particularly like the mini macs. They would look great with a pair of jeans.

And talking of jeans (ooh, did you see what I did there!) I have been having a search for fairtrade organic jeans and found hug . Not only do they have fairtrade organic jeans but they have the cutest kids tops...well I think so anyway. Another online fairtrade shop I like is People Tree. Not all their products are vegan friendly but there are lots of cotton garments. The Natural Collection also sells Fair trade clothing but again just watch out for silk and wool. They do lable the item if not suitable for vegans and they do have a fantastic range of ecological household products...again, everything not suitable for vegans is labelled. However the best Fair trade vegan clothing can be got from Dr Hadwens shop.

Random
Yes, random things that have been brought to my attention. First up Vegan Pirates International. If you have enjoyed Pirates of the Carribean...and lets be honest whats not to like about Johnny Depp in full pirate gear... then you will get this site. Be warned though...there are some bad puns there.

Also a recipe for sherbert. Why? Well...why not? I was sent a link to Pimp that snack which got me thinking about why not have a 'Veganize that snack' website which then got me searching for a recipe for the 'honeycomb'(no actual honey) which goes inside a crunchie and somehow found sherbert recipes. Plan on veganizing some more snacks. What I ended up finding were recipes I had given to Lucy to put on her site...really need to work on my memory. So here are Crunchie, Mars bars and Marathons (snickers) and if you want to make vegan Double Deckers mix up lots of chocolate with rice crispies and line the bottom of a baking pan. Make up the nougat from the mars bar and pour on top. Let set, cut up and dunk in melted chocolate.

2nd September 2006

Have divided todays post into categories. This make it easier and more logical for me to try and remember everything.

Clothes
Last month I mentioned that I suspected that Marks and Spencers would have some excellent autumn clothing in. I was, of course, correct. Check out these two amazing wool free winter coats - a black asymetrical coat and a white swing coat. They are rather gorgeous. I know this as I spent a while trying them on a few days ago! The biggest downside to autumn trends appears to be the inclusion of silk garments. I know silk is used fairly frequently but it looks like it is in this season unfortunately. There were silk blends in every shop I looked in from H&M to Coast (although Coast are notoriously bad for whacking silk into everything). Just keep and eye out.

Still vaguely on the subject of clothing I have found this excellent video showing you exactly how to fold your clothes Japanese style. I first saw this last week when I subjected Lucy to watching Anthea Turner Perfect Housewife. I have to say she scares me a little and I do prefer her much less scary sister Wendy (who just so happens to be vegan) but there is something fascinating about this show. Quite enjoy her bizarre top tips too.

Make up and hair
Can still highly recommend Urban Decay and have just added some concealer to my collection. It is smooth and creamy, doesn't flake and covers my dark circles. Does everything a concealer needs to do I guess. Urban Decay have also just added a Vegan page to their website listing everything which is suitable. You can even print out a complete list to take to the shops with you! Yes!The Vegan society magazine mentioned a company called Inika who have created certified vegan mineral based cosmetics. The company is based in Australia but are available from Mother Earth in Islington, 282-284 St Pauls Road, London N1 2LH.

For those who like to 'enhance their natural haircolour' there i a new range of hair dyes from Jigami an organic hairdressers in London. Their H2O range of hair dyes are available online so go here to choose a colour.

Ok, I am going crosseyed from doing so many links therefore I am going to go and clean the house a la Anthea. Before I go I need to mention that Dr Hadwen have a new catalogue out and I hear rumours of new make up and vegan white chocolate bars. Can't see it online yet so if you want one email info@drhadwentrust.org.uk. Don't forget to give them your full address and postcode. Will try and post more later as I do have more to add and I am waiting for my camera battery to charge.

Raw Foods

Nothing of much interest to anyone on my camera sadly except some raw chocolate. Now, be warned it does not taste anything like a bar of Green and Blacks but I really liked it. I didn't think I would. There are a few different flavours and they are all vegan and raw but I have only tried Intacta. They are all handmade and created by Shazzie who has been on a raw food diet now for about 5-6 years and she looks disgustingly good on it! If you do try it please don't think that it is going to tatse like other chocolates but enjoy it as a product in its own right.

Another raw company is Raw Gaia. Instead of food they make moisturisers which contain nothing nasty at all...no petrochemicals, parabens, synthetic fragrances etc. Haven't tried their products yet but once I finish my current moisturiser I think I will.

Animal groups

If you live in the UK and rely on supermarkets for your shopping then Animal Aid want to hear from you. They have a downloadable form wanting to find out how vegetarian and vegan friendly your local supermarket is. It's worth doing as it has made we want to write a letter to some of the ones near to me asking why they put things such as vegan cheeses, yogurts etc randomly in among meat and dairy products. How is anyone meant to know where they are!?

Really enough for today now! Must go make a cup of tea and consider folding clothes and chucking out paperwork...oh the glamourous life I lead!
